Patrick Kiconco Katabaazi has pledged to promote unity in Rukiga District, saying disunity among leaders has hampered development in the district for years.
Katabaazi made the remarks shortly after being sworn in as Member of Parliament for Rukiga County for the 2026–2031 term.
He said one of his immediate priorities would be to bring together political, religious and cultural leaders to foster a common vision for the district’s development.
“There has been disunity in Rukiga District for years, especially among leaders. My first task is to unite all stakeholders — political, religious and cultural — so we speak with one voice for our people,” Katabaazi said.
The legislator also pledged to popularise the ruling National Resistance Movement manifesto and support government programmes aimed at improving household incomes and livelihoods.
“I will ensure that our people from Rukiga continue to engage in different government programs like PDM. I will also focus on our road network within the district,” he noted.
Katabaazi was declared winner of the Rukiga County parliamentary seat in the January 14, 2026 general elections on the NRM ticket.
He succeeds Roland Ndyomugyenyi as the area Member of Parliament.
